Dust Devils beat AquaSox 5-4 on walk-off single

PASCO — Tri-City center fielder Tre Carter hit a two-out, walk-off single to left field, handing Everett a 5-4 road loss Friday night in the opener of a three-game series at Gesa Stadium.

Everett (3-6) led 4-2 entering the bottom of the eighth, but Tri-City rallied to tie the game with a sac fly and an RBI, setting up Carter’s heroics in the bottom of the ninth.

The loss overshadowed what was a second consecutive strong outing from Everett starter Andres Torres.

Torres (1-0) allowed one run on four hits, struck out four and walked three in five innings of work after tossing five scoreless in his first start on June 18.

Everett reliever David Ellingson took the loss after entering the ninth with the game tied at 4-4.

Everett’s Austin Grebeck gave the Frogs a 1-0 lead in the top of third with an RBI triple, and Joe Venturino, Brayan Hernandez and Eugene Helder followed with RBI in the fifth to extend Everett’s lead to 4-0.

Everett’s Onil Pena was 3-for-3 with two doubles, and Billy Cooke went 2-for-4 in his Sox debut.

The Dust Devils were led by Chandler Seagle, who went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Justin Lopez and Carter had two hits.
