I have recently noticed how well the economy is doing as reported by the news media and our government. I have been a Herald reader since I moved to the Everett area in 1981. Generally, several times a year, there have been two to four pages of legal notices on an occasional basis over that period of time.
As a casual observer of the economy, I believe that the number of legal (read as “foreclosure”) notices is a measure of how the economy is performing locally. Since August 2008, I have been noticing a regular, daily increase in the number of pages dedicated to foreclosure notices in The Herald. Most days, there are three to four pages of such notices. However, since the economy has been recovering, I am noticing that at least once a week there are six to ten pages of foreclosure notices. Once last summer, on a single day, there were 16 pages and just this last week there were 15 pages of such notices.
I am sure that once the economy fully recovers, I may see 20 or more pages of foreclosure notices. I sure am glad that there is truthful reporting of such important economic issues. It makes me feel so much better and I can, thereby, sleep much sounder at night.
