SHORELINE — Mountlake Terrace’s Andrew Woeck knew that with a win Tuesday night a playoff berth was a possibility.
He showed it with 16 strikeouts against Shorecrest.
Woeck pitched a complete-game shutout, giving up three hits and the Hawks had enough offense to squeek out a 2-0 Wesco South win at Shorecrest H.S.
The win puts Terrace at 11-4 in league, 12-5 oveall with three regular season games remaining. Terrace needs a win and losses by Edmonds-Woodway and Shorewood to clinch a 4A District No. 1 playoff berth.
“It was all about Andrew (Woeck) today,” Terrace head coach Andrew Watters said. “He had them mixed up all day. Today was huge for (Woeck) because he was really focused and tuned in all day.”
Through the first six innings, Woeck mowed down 14 Scots, holding on to a 1-0 lead from a Terrace run in the third inning.
The Hawks stole two bases in the top of the seventh inning to setup its final run of the game on an infield hit for a 2-0 lead.
Woeck then added two strikeouts in the bottom of the seventh and Shorecrest went 1-2-3 to close out the game.
“Finishing off Shorecrest 1-2-3 in that last inning was great for (Woeck),” Watters said. “He had his composure to stay strong to the end.”
