Volunteer: Clothes for Kids boutique
Clothes for Kids seeks community volunteers to help run its boutique shop located at 16725 52nd Ave. W. in Lynnwood.
Clothes for Kids is a nonprofit organization that serves more than 5,100 local low-income families every year by providing children with no-cost wardrobes. The organization also offers Working Wardrobes which provides men, women and teens with work-appropriate clothing.

Bikes: Learn safety tips at Sultan rodeo
Families with children can attend the free Sultan Safety Rodeo on Sept. 19 to learn bike safety, register their bikes to prevent theft, have bikes inspected, and ride through the bicycle safety training course.
The bike rodeo is from noon to 4 p.m. at Osprey Park, at the corner of First Street and High Avenue, Sultan.
The Bike Rodeo and Safety Fair is sponsored by the city and the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office and is held in partnership with Fire District 5, the Sultan Boys and Girls Club, and Volunteers of America.

Volunteer: Pitch in at friendship walk
Volunteers are needed for a variety of jobs during this year’s Village Community Services’ Friendship Walk.
Set up for the event begins at 8 a.m. Sept. 12 at Arlington Legion Park Gazebo, 114 N. Olympic Avenue, Arlington. Registration is at 11 a.m. and the event begins at 1 p.m.
The event is free and volunteers and walkers who donate or collect $25 or more in sponsorships will receive a T-shirt. This is also an opportunity for students to earn service learning hours.
The Friendship Walk celebrates the inclusion of people with disabilities in community life. Event proceeds benefit Village Music and Arts and Voices of the Village.

Rotary: Cultural exchange to Brazil
The Rotary Club of Snohomish recently announced an opportunity for young professional men and women between the ages of 25 and 40 years of age to travel to Brazil as part of a Group Study Exchange team from Washington and British Columbia.
The trip is an all-expenses-paid trip for a cultural and vocational exchange of four to six weeks in spring 2010.
Applicants cannot be related to a Rotarian but Rotarians are eligible to apply to be a team leader.
The deadline for both applications is Sept. 18. Applicant interviews are Sept. 26-27.

Be safe: Falls prevention fair
The Snohomish Senior Center plans to host “Rise Up Against Falling,” a free resource fair for older people to learn how to prevent falls.
According to area fire departments, 73 percent of trauma related calls from people 62 years and older are caused by a fall. The most current statistics from 2005, show 12,200 seniors in Washington were hospitalized due to a fall and 491 died as a result of a fall.
Those who attend the resource fair, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 19 at 506 4th St., Snohomish, can learn how to help avoid falling and what resources are available if they or someone they know does fall.
