Thanks for the thoughtful editorial that asks us to consider what will we do in the current situation we find our country in, keeping in mind Dr. King’s work and what to do now (“What would MLK Jr. do? What, now, will we do?” The Herald, Jan. 18).
A question for all to ponder, and take action in a way that would make Dr. King smile. Connecting with our members of Congress is one way to open a dialogue to work together. Passing an expanded child tax credit already proven to cut child poverty in half would be a good start. After all, it was mentioned by both parties in the recent election]\.
A second step would be working to end hunger with a SNAP program increased to do just that. The “beloved community” is possible if all of us ‘work collectively toward achieving’ it, by speaking out for these and other initiatives that bring hope and possibility to all Americans.
