Mukilteo Community Orchestra sets 2023-24 season

The orchestra’s theme for its 26th season is “Finding Community Through Musical Narratives.”

The Mukilteo Community Orchestra’s 26th season will include four concerts beginning in November, with the theme “Finding Community Through Musical Narratives.”

“This year we celebrate community by performing pieces that evoke specific emotions, tell stories, or reflect cultural influences,” said Shaun Day, the orchestra’s conductor and artistic director. “Musical narratives provide a cohesive thread that bind our audience members together and create a shared experience that transcends individual backgrounds, beliefs and experiences.”

The orchestra’s season opener on Nov. 5, dubbed “The Stories We Tell,” will feature works by Berlioz, Grieg and Tchaikovsky, all inspired by folklore and imagination. Music to be performed includes Berlioz’s “Hungarian March from the Damnation of Faust, Opus 24,” “Peer Gynt Suite No. 1, Op. 46” by Edward Grieg and selections from “Swan Lake” by Tchaikovsky.

On Dec. 17, the orchestra will again partner with the Snohomish County Music Teachers Association for the SCMTA Concerto Competition Winners Showcase. Each year the orchestra accompanies five talented youth soloists selected by SCMTA for their winning concerto performances.

Two concerts in 2024 will round out the orchestra’s season. On March 10, “Sweeping Forces” will offer monumental classics that have shaped our culture through music, a news release states. The orchestra will perform Johannes Brahms’ “Tragic Overture Op. 81” and Florence Price’s “Symphony No. 3.” The orchestra will then close out the season on May 19 with “Musical Inspirations,” which will feature pieces by Holst, Faure and Marquez, selected for their lasting impressions in cultures throughout the world.

All concerts are free and will begin at 2 p.m. at Rosehill Community Center, 304 Lincoln Ave., Mukilteo. For more information, go to mukilteoorchestra.org.
