EVERETT — A driver fleeing a traffic stop in Everett hit five bystanders, killing three early Saturday morning, police said.
Around 1 a.m., a Snohomish County sheriff’s deputy tried to pull over a driver for a traffic violation near the 11700 block of Airport Road, said Everett police officer CJ Hawley.
The driver fled. The deputy reportedly didn’t pursue. The driver quickly lost control, crashing into the bystanders, Hawley said. Three died at the scene. Two others were taken to the hospital.
Three people who were in the car were detained, Hawley said. None were taken to the hospital. As of 8 a.m., investigators hadn’t arrested them, he said.
Everett police were investigating as the crash occurred just inside city limits.
