BOTHELL — I-405 south reopened after about two hours of backups caused by a school bus crash Wednesday afternoon in Bothell.
Around 1:15 p.m., the state Department of Transportation reported the crash on southbound I-405 just north of Highway 527. The crash, involving the bus, a pickup and a passenger car, initially blocked all lanes. It was unclear what caused the crash.
About a half hour after the crash, the right lane reopened. Around 1:45 p.m., the transportation department reported a 3-mile backup due to the crash. All lanes reopened just after 3 p.m.
The bus was transporting a girls soccer team from the La Conner School District. The 20 students and three adults on the bus weren’t injured, according to the Bothell Fire Department.
“Law enforcement arranged for a city bus to safely transport everyone from the freeway,” the district wrote. “We appreciate the community’s concern and support, as well as the quick response from first responders.”
The driver of the pickup suffered minor injuries, said Washington State Patrol trooper Rommie Smith.
