Sunday’s AF1 Washington Wolfpack game to be televised

The Everett-based Arena Football One team readies for Sunday’s season opener.

EVERETT — The Washington Wolfpack, the second-year Arena Football team that calls Everett’s Angel of the Winds Arena home, will be featured as the AF1’s game of the week on the VICE TV network for Sunday’s season opener.

The Wolfpack, part of the rebranded Arena Football One league — previously called the Arena Football League — will face the SW Kansas Storm at home on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.

VICE TV can be found locally on Xfinity on channel 712, as well as some streaming services.

It was big news for the Wolfpack, who endured a wild season off the field with an unstable AFL that they say has righted itself as AF1.

“We’re beyond excited,” Washington general manager Miguel Morga said. “We’re trying to do everything we can to make sure that we have our product ready to broadcast nationally.”

AF1 games not featured on VICE TV can be streamed online through Evergreen Now.

Morga said he believes the Wolfpack were chosen for the league’s first national broadcast because they drew some strong crowds last season. Ticket sales, he said, are up from last year, though the organization is hoping to continue growth this season. Single-game and season tickets remain available at www.washingtonwolfpack.com

“We’ve got a reputation now after year one of putting a good product out there,” Morga said. “We have great imagery with our field, our helmets and our color scheme. We tend to have a passionate fan base, so I think all of that went into consideration. It’s going to be a great opener with SW Kansas.”

Wolfpack head coach J.R. Wells is finalizing the roster for the team’s opener, Morga said, and it is expected to be announced Friday.
