GRANITE FALLS — The Granite Falls man accused of killing his neighbor this month surrendered to authorities Monday, three days after he was released on bail.
On Friday, prosecutors charged Jason Philip Harrison with first-degree murder in Jason Reeley’s shooting death.
Sheriff’s deputies had arrested Harrison, 32, two weeks earlier for investigation of second-degree murder. Security footage captured the gunman shooting Reeley in the head, according to the charges filed in Snohomish County Superior Court.
Everett District Court Commissioner Jennifer Millet set his bail at $500,000 on Aug. 7. Harrison posted bail and was released 1:35 p.m. Friday.
Deputy Prosecutor Corinne Klein said Harrison was originally arrested on investigation of second-degree murder because all the facts of the case were not immediately available, such as the home security footage. When prosecutors found out he was released on bail, it “exponentially” sped up the process to amend the charges.
Prosecutors increased the charge to first-degree murder by 3:54 p.m. the same day, when Superior Court Judge Karen Moore signed a warrant for his arrest.
Harrison turned himself in Monday night to the Granite Falls Police Department, sheriff’s office spokesperson Courtney O’Keefe said. His arraignment was set for wednesday afternoon.
