Airbus A350, rival to 787, wins first order

Airbus won its first firm orders Thursday for the A350 XWB, the latest version of its planned mid-size jet designed to rival the Boeing Co.’s fuel-efficient 787. Finnair PLC agreed to convert its nine orders for the previous version of the A350 to the upgraded plane and order two more. Finnair said it expects to take delivery of its first A350XWB in 2014.

DHL orders six 767-300 freighters

The Boeing Co. and DHL, an international delivery company, agreed on an order for six 767-300 Extended Range Freighters. The order, valued at $894 million at list prices, previously had been accounted for on Boeing’s Web site. Boeing has won orders for 36 of its Everett-built 767s this year.

Costco profit falls in latest quarter

Costco Wholesale Corp.’s fiscal second-quarter profit dropped 16 percent, hurt in part by costs associated with revamping its consumer electronics return policy. Costco said Thursday that net income for the quarter ended Feb. 18 fell to $249.5 million, or 54 cents per share, from $296 million a year ago. Revenue increased 7.5 percent to $15 billion.

Clearwire shares fall after IPO

Shares of Clearwire Corp., the Kirkland-based wireless Internet service provider founded by cellular phone pioneer Craig McCaw, fell in their first day of trading Thursday after the company raised $600 million in an initial public stock offering. The company sold 24 million shares priced at $25 each on Wednesday night. Although shares initially shot up over $27, they ultimately fell to end the day at $24.62 on the Nasdaq market. The shares trade under the ticker symbol CLWR.

Zumiez shares jump on sales news

Shares of Everett-based Zumiez Inc. gained more than 13 percent in value, a day after the company posted impressive sales gains during February. The stock price of the action- sports-related retailer rose by $4.36 to close Thursday at $36.65. That returned the company’s market value to more than $1 billion.

Bigger revenue, losses at Lumera

Lumera Corp. of Bothell lost $3.1 million during the fourth quarter, the developer of polymer materials and other nanotechnology said Thursday. During the quarter, the company brought in revenue of $1.2 million, a 382 percent increase over the $240,000 the company made in the same quarter of 2005. For all of 2006, the company generated $3.4 million in revenue and lost $12.1 million.
