Airbus has shaved off six months from the wait for its upgraded A320 aircraft, the jet maker said Wednesday.
The A320 new engine option, or A320neo, will enter commercial service in October 2015, rather than in early 2016, Airbus said.
Airbus says its A320neo will save customers 15 percent in fuel efficiency.
“The exceptional market demand for the A320neo Family as airlines recognise the operational, economic and environmental advantages which the neo will deliver, has encouraged us to advance the entry into service date to October 2015,” says John Leahy, Airbus’ chief operating officer, in a statement.
The re-engined A320 that will debut in October 2015 will feature Pratt & Whitney’s PW1100G turbofan engine.
Airbus has 300 commitments for its A320neo.
