Thi Trieu and her Evergreen Beauty &Barber College has been named 2007 Business of the Year by the Greater Everett Business &Professional Women’s organization. Thi, who immigrated from Vietnam in 1975, has raised five children who are involved in the family business.

Business events

The appropriate way to fire people will be the topic of a seminar from 7:30 until 9 a.m. Sept. 9 at Staples, 4920 Evergreen Way. S. in Everett. The session, entitled “The Thoughtful Termination: A Pre-termination Checklist,” will be presented by Vickie Norris, of the Anderson Hunter law firm. New business

Red Robin has opened a new restaurant at 21215 Bothell-Everett Highway, in Bothell in mid-September. The casual dining restaurant chain features burgers, appetizers, salads and beverages in what it describes as a kid-friendly atmosphere. Nils Tilman is the new general manager. The Women’s Wellness Center, 2817 Rockefeller Ave., Everett, now offers acupuncture therapy. It will be provided by Kellie Lawyer, a board certified naturopathic physician who is licensed in Washington state for acupuncture.

Job fairs

Three workshops and an employment and resource fair, all targeted at mature workers, will be offered this month by Worksource Snohomish County. The fair will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 24 in Floral Hall at Forest Park, 802 E. Mukilteo Blvd. in Everett. Attendance is free. Business set to participate include ResCare and The Home Depot. In preparation of the fair, the agency will hold free workshops from 1 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 10 and Sept. 17 at WorkSource Everett, 840 N. Broadway. Wednesday’s will focus on identify skills and abilities, the Sept. 10 session will focus on creating a modern resume and the final workshop will discuss how to get the best results from a job fair.

Good deeds

Customers of Haggen Food &Pharmacy stores raised $18,031 for Snohomish County schools during the 2007-08 school year, the company reported. The money was generated through its School Bucks program, which contributes money from the sale of designated products. The program has raised $850,000 in Washington and Oregon since it began in 1998.

Lynden-based Peoples Bank recently gave $500 donations to the Rotary Club of Mill Creek and Arts of Snohomish, a nonprofit group working to revitalize the community’s downtown.
