Japan Airlines will take delivery of its first Boeing Co. 787 on Sunday, the carrier said Wednesday.
The airline is only the second to receive a 787 so far. All Nippon Airways of Japan was Boeing’s launch customer for the Dreamliner and took delivery of the first 787 last year. Through mid-March, Boeing had delivered five 787s to ANA.
Japan Airlines, or JAL, will be the first customer for a Dreamliner powered with General Electric engines. On Tuesday, Boeing announced it had received Federal Aviation Administration certification to deliver 787-8s equipped with GEnx engines.
JAL said Wednesday that its pilots will fly the Dreamliner from Everett to Tokyo’s Narita airport on Monday. The carrier will use its 787 for flights between Narita and Boston beginning April 22.
