BELLINGHAM — JC Penney is shutting down eight stores later this year, including one in Skagit County.
While it hasn’t been officially announced on the company’s website, several national media outlets, including CNBC, have reported the stores will be shut down by May.
The JC Penney store at the Cascade Mall in Burlington is on the list, but the one at Bellis Fair is not, according to the reports.
The other stores on the list are in Missouri, New Jersey, Minnesota, Illinois, Oklahoma, California and Ohio.
The eight store closures will result in about 480 job cuts, according to CNBC, which cited a JC Penney spokesman.
