Yum Brands Inc. is putting two of its slow-growing chains — Long John Silver’s and A&W All-American Food — on the block as part of a strategy to focus on its far more profitable Taco Bell, Pizza Hut and KFC brands both here and abroad.
“We do not believe Long John Silver’s and A&W-All American Food restaurants fit into our long-term growth strategy,” Chief Executive David Novak said Tuesday.
“Accordingly, we have decided to put these two great brands up for sale and we will complete the sale only once the right buyer or buyers have been identified and we can ensure a seamless transition.”
The company noted that at the time of its spin off from Pepsi, just 22 percent of its profit came from international operations, a figure that has since nearly tripled to 65 percent.
Long John Silver’s and A&W have 1,630 outlets, all franchise owned.
