EVERETT – Kim Buike, the Port of Everett’s marina director, is looking for a new job.
Buike, the former commander of Naval Station Everett, said he is looking for a position where he can serve the community more broadly. He told port officials he’ll remain until they hire a replacement or until Feb. 15, 2007.
“It is now the right time for me to pursue other opportunities that closely align with my deep-felt passion for meaningful service to others on a broader scale than my present position will allow,” Buike said in a prepared statement. “Working for the port these past three years has helped my family and I to make a smooth transition following a 27-year career serving the nation, for which I am most gratelful.”
John Mohr, the port’s executive director, lauded Buike, saying he had “done some great things while at the helm of the marina.”
While running the marina, officials said, Buike:
* Established a dock captain program to improve communication, selecting volunteers to share tenants’ concerns with the marina’s staff.
* Implemented new marketing programs to reach out to new and existing customers.
* Increased public access to the waterfront.
* Played a key advisory role in the Port Gardner Wharf development under way at the waterfront.
* Helped obtain more than $2 million in government grants for marina projects.
