Lynnwood Convention Center hires four
LYNNWOOD — The Lynnwood Convention Center has hired new staff.
Brad Kolodzaike is the new operations manager. With 12 years of experience, he is well-versed in facility operations, most recently as senior manager of operations with the
Memphis Grizzlies-FedEx Forum in Memphis, Tenn. Kolodzaike is also a graduate of IAVM’s prestigious Venue Management School. He joined the SMG team in Lynnwood in December 2010.
MarJaé Toler joins the team in the newly created position of corporate sales manager. She possesses a solid background in customer relations, sales and marketing and was most recently the print advertising manager with Tulalip Resort Casino in Marysville. Toler started her new position in February.
Katie Williams is SMG’s newest event manager at the Lynnwood Convention Center. With several years of experience in the hospitality industry, she possesses both an eye for detail and a focus on customer service. Before joining the SMG team in Lynnwood in November 2010, she owned her own event planning firm.
Juli Robinson joins the team in the newly created position of events and catering coordinator. Robinson brings more than five years of event industry experience, including two years as an event coordinator with the Bureau of Education and Research in Bellevue. She joined the team in November 2010.
Family & Children’s Services chief for VOA
EVERETT — Volunteers of America Western Washington recently welcomed Cheryl Iverson as director of Family and Children’s Services for Snohomish and Skagit counties.
Iverson has been at Volunteers of America for three years, managing and developing programs and partnerships within the FACS department. Her prior VOA roles have included the Child Care Resource and Referral professional development coordinator, provider services manager and early learning manager.
As the director of Family and Children’s Services, Iverson will oversee all FACS programs in Snohomish and Skagit counties.
Volunteers of America Western Washington serves an eight-county region, providing food, housing and support services for people wherever they are struggling. Each year, VOAWW responds to 350,000 requests for assistance. For more information, go to www.voaww.org.
Junior Achievement’s new regional director
EVERETT — Junior Achievement of Washington welcomes Gary Hauff as the regional director for Junior Achievement in Snohomish County.
Hauff has been a sales and marketing executive for the past 20 years, most recently as the general manager for the Snohomish County Business Journal.
As regional director, he will continue to work with Snohomish County businesses, but with a new focus to bring JA’s work readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy programs to K-12 classrooms throughout the county.
Community Health Center picks new CEO
EVERETT — Bob Farrell has been hired as the new chief executive officer of Community Health Center of Snohomish County.
Farrell has been serving as interim co-CEO since December 2010 and as chief financial officer for six years. He has a strong commitment to CHC’s mission of providing clients with access to high quality, affordable primary health care and vision of a healthy community through access to health care for everyone.
Utilizing his strengths in internal controls, analytical review and process improvement, as well as his commitment to collaborating with community partners, Farrell will ensure CHC remains financially viable so all children and adults receive the health care they need.
Zonta Club notes seven for community efforts
EVERETT — In honor of the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day, the Zonta Club of Everett honored seven local women for their work in the community on behalf of women at a March 11 recognition event at the Everett Golf and Country Club.
Lois Brown and Lynette Gardiner Kidd are co-founders of the Mukilteo Community Garden. This garden originated as a place where single mothers could come and get fresh produce. True to its purpose, this garden serves many more and is a teaching institution as well.
Kay Field works as a pro bono attorney from Snohomish County Legal Services and has assisted more than 350 clients from the YWCA Pathways for Women programs as well as community clients in family law issues over the past nine years.
Kerri Mallams is founder of Citrine Health-Women’s Wellness Center, a program offering health screenings and counseling to connect women to low-cost health insurance, food assistance and wellness education
Sarah Sweeney is a tireless advocate for abolition of sex-trafficking locally and globally through the Not for Sale Campaign and other grassroots organizations
Carol Schillios is owner of Fabric of Life and is a micro-finance consultant. She has brought attention to the importance of micro-lending in improving the status of women globally, she supports women artists and fair trade through her retail establishment and she volunteers as speaker to various service organizations
Carol Wheeler is a strong promoter of improving the status of women. She has been a member of Soroptimist for 20 years and is on the DVS capital campaign. She has been a Girl Scout for 25 years and on the board of the Girl Scouts for two years and has led a Girl Scout troop for 10 years.
Each of the women received a yellow rose as thanks for their work.

D.A. Davidson & Co. promotes Leach
D.A. Davidson & Co. recently announced that Robert Leach, senior vice president, financial consultant, has been named branch manager for the firm’s downtown Everett office.
“We’re excited to continue to grow across Washington state and think that Bob is the right person to lead our Everett office as we do so,” said Jim Kerr, president of D.A. Davidson’s Individual Investor Group.
Leach has extensive experience in the securities industry, including previous work as a manager. He has been with D.A. Davidson since May 2006. He takes over management of the office from Mike Dutton, senior vice president, financial consultant, who has overseen the office since 2006.
Dutton decided to step aside from his management duties in order to have more time for both his clients and personal life.
Surgeon inducted into Blanchet Hall of Fame
SEATTLE — Dr. Harold McCutchan, Snohomish County orthopedic surgeon, was inducted in to the 2011 Blanchet High School Hall of Fame as part of the 1974 boys state soccer championship team.
McCutchan played mid-field for the Blanchet soccer team for three years, and earned three varsity letters. In 1977, he went on to play on Seattle Pacific University’s men’s soccer team, which placed second in the NCAA championship. He also played on Washington State University’s men’s soccer team from 1978-1980, winning the NWICA championship all three years.
McCutchan has a bachelor of science degree in biochemistry from WSU. He graduated from the University of Washington School of Medicine in 1986 and completed residency at the University of Colorado Health Sciences in Denver.
He is an American Board-certified orthopedic surgeon, specializing in surgery of the hand and upper extremity, with special interest in sports injuries. He is in private practice in Everett and is affiliated with the American Medical Association, American Society for Surgery of the Hand, American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the Washington State Medical Association.
Cascade Skagit Health Alliance hires pediatrician
ARLINGTON — Cascade Skagit Health Alliance, a partnership between Cascade Valley Hospital and Skagit Valley Hospital, has hired its first physician, pediatrician Krista Galitsis, MD.
Pediatrics will be offered five days per week at 16404 Smokey Point Blvd. Suite 301 until a new 42,000-square-foot multispecialty health care facility is complete in early 2012. Patients can call 360-651-8365 for an appointment.
Galitsis is a graduate of the University of South Alabama. She received her pediatric residency training at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn. She is a fellow with the American Academy of Pediatrics and has 18 years of pediatric experience.
Dr. Galitsis specializes in child and adolescent health care for newborn patients through age 18. Her special interests include treating childhood asthma, allergies and ADHD.
Cascade Skagit Health Alliance is a joint venture between Cascade Valley Hospital and Skagit Valley Hospital. The new clinic will offer pediatrics, family medicine, internal medicine and occupational medicine.
New doctor at Helping Hands Veterinary Clinic
LYNNWOOD — Dr. Melissa Walker has joined Helping Hands Veterinary Clinic.
Walker graduated from Cornell University in 2004. She has been working with small animals in the veterinary field for 17 years and has experience practicing in a variety of hospital environments, including practices that offered 24-hour emergency and critical care, general medicine, rehabilitation and acupuncture. She has a special interest in preventative medicine, nutrition, treating inflammatory disease including dermatology, gastrointestinal disease, and degenerative joint disease, homeopathy and soft-tissue surgery. Walker grew up in Vermont and went to college at St. Lawrence University in New York. Since she graduated from Cornell, she has called Seattle home.

VibrantUSA growth leads to Everett office
EVERETT — VibrantUSA, an independent insurance agency specializing in Medicare, has opened a new sales office in the Everett area. The office has two licensed insurance agents, Don Schafer, manager, and Vicki Moore.
Schafer joined VibrantUSA nearly four years ago and worked in the Bellingham office as a licensed insurance agent until his transfer to Everett. He was selected as the Everett manager based on his knowledge of Medicare insurance and his leadership capabilities. He has more than 10 years prior experience in business administration and customer service. He is active in Kiwanis and spends his free time practicing gourmet cooking and working with his saltwater reef aquariums. He and his wife are originally from the Mount Vernon area.
Vicki Moore has more than two years with VibrantUSA, having worked in customer service and applications processing. Before her career with VibrantUSA, she spent more than 10 years in management positions. She is a native of Skagit County and now lives in Everett. Her outside activities include two memberships in square dancing clubs.
HomeStreet Bank hires new loan officer
MARYSVILLE — Rich Hallman has joined HomeStreet Bank as a residential loan officer.
A resident of the area, Hallman will be based in the Marysville office, located at 1238 State Ave.
He has worked in the real estate industry for many years, first as an agent and, for the past 20 years, as a loan officer. Hallman teaches classes on home financing to home buyers and real estate agents.
Conservation District honors county staffers
Snohomish County staff was recently honored by the Snohomish Conservation District for efforts to improve partnerships benefiting water quality and natural resource management within the district.
Snohomish County Surface Water Utility director Debbie Terwilleger and interim stewardship supervisor Mike McGuiness received the awards during the Conservation District’s annual awards ceremony held March 24.
“Our partnership with, and recognition by, the Snohomish Conservation District shows that Snohomish County has always been a leader in conservation measures,” County Executive Aaron Reardon said. “We will continue to build partnerships that protect our water quality and natural resources.”
Celebrating its 70th anniversary this year, the Snohomish Conservation District works with farmers and landowners to promote and encourage conservation and responsible use of natural resources. In 2010, Snohomish County worked in partnership with the Conservation District to provide technical assistance and educational programs to farmers aimed at improving farm management, preserving water quality and promoting the recovery of salmon in our rivers and streams.
Snohomish County’s Surface Water Management also addresses many of these challenges, and it was these efforts that led to Terwilleger and McGuiness being recognized.
The Snohomish Conservation District is a subdivision of state government and offers several educational programs, provides technical assistance and organizes numerous outreach events each year. In addition, the district provides online educational materials to assist those interested in conservation and farming.
Jason McGary joins Private Advisory Group
REDMOND — Jason McGary has joined Private Advisory Group to service families and individuals of significant wealth.
McGary, director of business development and lead financial advisor for a Snohomish County investment advisory firm for the past five years, has a background that also includes retirement plan advising and small business consulting.
“Jason is a passionate client advocate,” said Steve Bean, founder of Private Advisory Group, “and we are looking forward to his network of accounting and legal professionals joining our clients’ advisory groups.”
McGary has more than 15 years of advising and marketing experience in the financial, human relations and recreation industries. In addition, he owned an event management company where his first employee later became his wife.
Born and raised in Seattle’s Laurelhurst neighborhood, McGary played professional basketball overseas while his wife served in the U.S. Army. They have been married for 12 years and have two children.
