There’s about an 80 percent chance that Airbus will opt to put a new engine on its A320 rather than design an all-new single-aisle jet, according to Reuters
Engineers met today at the European jet maker to discuss options on the future of the A320 program. Airbus’ executive committee has the final say.
Analysts say Boeing is unlikely to re-engine its competing 737 if Airbus keeps to its new engine plan for the A320. The Chicago-based jet maker instead would look to come out with an all-new single-aisle plane. Boeing officials had planned to make a decision this year but recently have said the decision may slide into early 2011.
This story in The Economist takes a closer look at the Airbus re-engine strategy.
