TUCSON, Ariz. — London-based Rolls-Royce is testing a new jet engine at the Tucson International Airport.
The modified 747 Boeing jumbo jet isn’t taking on any passengers yet.
The Arizona Daily Star reports that the plane is at the airport as part of a project with Raytheon Technical Services to test an engine designed for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
Raytheon spokeswoman Melissa Clearly says an official test flight should take place soon.
The plane is parked in the airport’s cargo area. Airport spokeswoman Katy Smith says the airport had the flexibility to accommodate the test flight schedule and good weather.
