2025 Honda Civic lineup welcomes new hybrid variants

The Civic Hybrid is available in sedan and hatchback body styles.

Upon seeing that my car for the week was a Honda Civic, a friend said, “There’s probably been a Civic in everyone’s life at some time or other.”

He might be right. Since its introduction in 1972, more than 28 million Honda Civics have been sold worldwide.

The most memorable Civic in my life belonged to my younger son who bought it while in college. That Civic’s best years were already far behind it at the time. The red paint was oxidized beyond recognition and the interior had end-stage upholstery. But that little Civic never broke down.

This son of mine, who is taller than Jake Bobo, could sit comfortably behind the wheel of the little Civic. All he had to do was recline the seat to a position that would have a short person looking at the headliner.

For his first job after completing his education, my boy became a public defender. Soon after, he got a new car. The Civic, still going strong, found a home with someone else in need of cheap but reliable transportation.

For all we know, that wonderful old Honda Civic is still alive out there somewhere in the world, with its odometer having turned over more times than an insomniac.

Fast-forward to the current Honda Civic. It’s a beauty. Exterior styling has been freshened for 2025, and a hybrid model joins the lineup, available in sedan and hatchback body styles, with Sport Hybrid and Sport Touring Hybrid trims for both.

The Civic Hybrid runs on a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine and two electric motors, delivering a speedy total of 200 horsepower and 232 pound-feet of torque, but also an impressive EPA rating of 50 mpg city, 47 mpg highway, and 49 mpg combined.

Pricing for the Civic Hybrid Sedan starts at $29,845 for the Sport trim, and $32,845 for the Sport Touring. These figures include a $1,095 destination charge.

I drove the 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid Sport Touring model. It exudes class, high style, and first-rate construction. Improvements needed to suppress noise inside the cabin have been successful. A smooth ride on the highway doesn’t diminish the Civic Hybrid’s ability to provide a lively driving experience around tight curves.

A 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, standard on the Sport Touring model, includes excellent 12-speaker Bose premium audio. I was a tiny bit dismayed by the absence of SiriusXM, which Honda apparently didn’t include due to lack of interest among customers. But Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, both wireless, are standard. So is wireless charging.
