Progress is being made. Patience is still required.
The 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 6 Limited AWD sedan is proof that electric vehicles are slowly, but surely, becoming mainstream. My tester, the long-range version, had an estimated 342-mile range.
And with the newly installed Level 2 charger in my garage, IONIQ 6 charged from nearly empty to 100% overnight. I’m beginning to think this new-fangled technology may have a future.
IONIQ 6 is available with a range of drive motors and battery packs to fit the needs of every customer, with no compromise on performance. Mine came with a 77.4‑kWh battery paired with two electric motors. The top-of-the-line dual motor setup is an AWD option producing 320 horsepower and 446 lb-ft of torque. It accelerates from 0-to-60 miles per hour in 4.3 seconds.
Powertrain technology also includes a battery pre-heating system, DC ultra-fast charging capability, and regenerative brake level control paddles that help eke out extra miles of range.
Its streamlined appearance and various design elements, such as an active air flap, wheel air curtains, integrated rear spoiler, and wheel gap reducers, significantly enhance the model’s aerodynamic performance, placing it among the sleekest vehicles worldwide.
In fact, the vehicle’s ultra-low drag coefficient of 0.21 is the lowest in the company’s line-up and one of the lowest in the industry. A “Serenity White” coat of enamel, 20-inch alloy wheels, and a wide sunroof add to the appeal. The trunk provides 11.2 cubic feet of storage and the “frunk” adds another half cubic foot.
The IONIQ 6 boasts a spacious and modern interior featuring dual 12.3-inch screens, a flat floor design, and minimalist yet luxurious aesthetic, with an emphasis on comfort and technology.
The creature comfort convenience list is even longer than normal. My personal favorites included navigation with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bose premium audio system, Bluetooth, H-Tex heated and ventilated front seats, dual color ambient lighting, wireless Smartphone charging, and aluminum pedals.
Other goodies on the list are a proximity key with push-button start, power flush door handles, head-up display, dual auto temperature control with rear air vents, front and rear USB ports, and a heated and leather-wrapped steering wheel.
Many of IONIQ 6’s interior touch points – seats, dashboard, headliner, door trim, and floor – also use eco-friendly, sustainable materials. Depending on the trim level, these include eco-processed leather with plant-based extracts, recycled PET fabric, bio paint derived from vegetable oils, and recycled fishing net carpet.
Making driving more simple is a surround view monitor, smart cruise control, remote smart parking assist, and blind spot view monitor.
Advanced safety technology puts the cherry on top of all of the above.
Features include forward collision-avoidance assist, blind spot collision avoidance assist lane keeping and following assist, rear cross-traffic collision avoidance assist, parking collision avoidance assist, parking distance warning, driver attention warning, and rear occupant alert.
For passengers’ protection, IONIQ 6 has an ultra-strong structure that disperses collision shock away from IONIQ 6’s cabin and prevents it from deforming. IONIQ 6 is also equipped with additional safety features, including seven airbags, a driver’s seat center-side airbag for additional passive safety.
