Nissan’s Murano two-row five-passenger midsize SUV is a whole new machine for 2025, with complete redesigns inside and out, connectivity updates, an added collection of available features, and a significant powertrain replacement.
Murano’s full makeover is in the nick of time, given that the last one occurred in 2014, a long time ago, in car years. After 10 years without a major update, cars risk emitting toll-of-the-bell vibes. The shiny new 2025 Nissan Murano is a revived, fourth-generation version of this elegant SUV with a reputation for stylishness.
The list of added features depending on trim level for the 2025 Murano is long. It includes ventilated front seats with massage, two 12.3-inch displays, Google built-in, wireless Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay, 21-inch wheels, 64-color ambient interior lighting, color head-up display, Invisible Hood View camera, 360-degree exterior camera system, ProPilot Assist, and a nine-speed automatic transmission.
The nine-speed automatic transmission partners with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine to form Murano’s new powertrain. It replaces the previous V6 that was paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). The turbo 4 engine produces 241 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque, a gain of 20 lb-ft over the V6.
A helpful but oversimplification of the differences in the two transmissions is that traditional automatics impart more of the “driving engagement feel” preferred by enthusiasts, while CVTs put more effort into maximizing fuel economy.
That said, the EPA ratings for the 2024 Murano were 20 mpg city, 28 mpg highway, and 23 combined, and the 2025 Murano numbers are 21/27/23 mpg. These figures apply for front-wheel as well as all-wheel-drive Muranos.
Drivers of all stripes and their passengers will be of one mind when it comes to Murano’s smooth ride and hushed cabin.
Murano’s luxury-level interior is comfortable, roomy, feature-filled, and stylish. Materials and build quality are first-rate. Durable synthetic leather upholstery is standard, with other options available.
The infotainment system is friendly for the most part. The Murano Platinum vehicle I drove comes standard with an 11-speaker Bose Premium Series audio system that brought extra joy to the week. However, capacitive-touch controls for the climate system put a tiny fly in the joy ointment. Capacitive-touch controls used while driving can create more driver distraction than necessary.
Murano’s cargo space behind the second row is 32.9 cubic feet. If second-row seats are folded down, cargo space increases to 63.5 cubic feet. That’s within the average range for a midsize SUV, but for my generally modest hauling requirements, it seemed enormous.
The 2025 Murano is offered in SV, SL, and Platinum trim levels, with base prices ranging from $40,470 to $49,600. The SV is available with front-wheel or all-wheel drive. SL and Platinum models are exclusively all-wheel-drive.
