Sunday’s episode of “The Simpsons” features two fantastic British imports: Ricky Gervais of “The Office” and a real-life “Simpsons” intro that was created by a team of Brits with, let’s face it, way too much time on their hands.
Still, it’s pretty cool. You can see it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xVf7wIePbD0&search=simpsons
The team created the entire one-minute opening to the show using real actors in real settings, from the opening smokestacks at the nuclear power plant to the whole gang squeezing onto the couch.
“I’m just amazed there are people who want to be known for looking like the Simpsons,” executive producer Al Jean said in a Fox press release.
Just be glad you don’t live in Canada. The press release mysteriously notes at the bottom, “The live-action opening will not air on Canadian broadcasts of the episode.”
You see. CBC might give you 153 hours of curling coverage from the Winter Olympics, but you can’t get the real-life “Simpsons” intro.
Here’s the official description of the episode: Homer’s obsession with Lenny’s new plasma TV causes Marge to enter the family in a sweepstakes, where they win a prize to the Fox studio lot. Against Marge’s judgment, Homer signs the family up for a “Trading Spouses”-type show and is forced to take in a controlling wife, while Marge moves in with a beaten-down husband, Charlie (guest star Gervais), and his perfect son. Charlie quickly develops a crush on Marge, while she’s just trying to give him the strength to stand up to his own wife.
