The Whatcom Museum of History &Art is featuring selections of French artist Auguste Rodin.
The “Rodin: In His Own Words” show opens Saturday and runs through Dec. 10 at the museum’s 1892 Old City Hall building, 121 Prospect St., Bellingham. Hours are noon to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays. Admission is free.
This body of work features 35 bronze sculptures, large and small that span the length of Rodin’s artistic legacy. Sculptures are paired with quotations from Rodin so that his words give viewers an insight into his ideas about art.
Rodin’s work suggests a frailty and vulnerability of the human body, while at the same time, speaks of its beauty and power.
The exhibit is part of a national traveling tour organized by the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Foundation of Los Angeles. This is the only scheduled appearance in the Pacific Northwest.
