Cascade Symphony Orchestra 2017-18 season tickets available

Cascade Symphony has released information about its 2017-18 season programs. Those who buy season tickets before June 1 are eligible for a price discount.

Full orchestra concert dates for the season are Oct. 23, Dec. 10-11, Jan. 15, March 12 and May 7. In addition, CSO will present its annual Children’s Concert on Feb. 10 and its Ensemble Concert on April 15.

Russian Arc, Oct. 23: The season begins with violin soloist Marley Erickson playing the Bruch Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor. The program also includes Spanish Dance No. 1 from De Falla’s “La Vida Breve.” The string section will be spotlighted in two movements from Tchaikovsky’s “Serenade for Strings,” and the wind section will perform “El Camino Real” by Alfred Reed. The full orchestra will conclude the concert with the Prokofiev Symphony No. 7.

Holiday Pops, Dec. 10-11: Pieces will include dances by Strauss and Smetana, light selections by Leroy Anderson, and several Christmas songs performed by soprano Kristin Vogel. A new presentation will be “Christmas at the Movies,” with music from five classic holiday films.

Scheherazade, Jan. 15: The program will begin with Beethoven’s well-known “Egmont Overture.” Clarinet soloist Ben Lulich will perform the Weber Clarinet Concerto No. 2 in E flat major. The concert includes “Huapango” by Jose Pablo Moncayo and concludes with Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Schereazade” suite.

Nordic Passion, March 12: The Sibelius Symphony No. 1 will provide the Norse influence. The orchestra will begin with Rossini’s “The Journey to Reims” Overture. Featured soloists will be violinist Mae Lin and cellist Eric Han performing the Brahms Double Concerto in A minor.

Roman Festivals, May 7: In addition to the title work by Respighi, the program includes Four Scottish Dances by Malcolm Arnold, Dance of the Persian Slaves from Mussorgsky’s “Khovanshchina,” and Reverie by Scriabin. Pianist Stephen Binondo will perform the Chopin Piano Concerto No. 2 in F minor.

The Children’s Concert will present the Saint-Saens favorite “Carnival of the Animals,” narrated by Dave Dolacky. The concert will also include the popular Cascade Percussion Ensemble and a performance by a young “Rising Star.”

The CSO Ensemble Concert features performances by members of Cascade Symphony in small ensembles in a more intimate setting.
