EDMONDS — “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” a musical comedy about an eclectic group of six “tweens” who vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime, opens tonight at the Wade James Theatre, 950 Main St., Edmonds.
While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home life, the students spell their way through a series of words, hoping to never hear the soul-crushing “ding” of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller wins.
“The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” runs through May 8 under the direction of Pauls Macs, with musical direction by Mark and Nancy Press, production by Joanne Branch and Anabel Hovig and stage management by Sean McKay.
The cast of Edmonds Driftwood Players’ Spelling Bee includes Mason Beaver, Dakota Daley, Morgan Dietkus, Marshall Link, Laura McFarlane, Olivia Waring, Ireland Woods, Jon Woods, and Michael Yichao.
Tickets are $25, or $22 for seniors, students and military. Go to www.edmondsdriftwoodplayers.org or call 425-774-9600, option 3.
