People generally enjoy a good hero or a good myth.
The Mukilteo Community Orchestra intends to improve on those types of tales by telling the stories through the compositions of 19th century music.
In its concert ,”Heroes and Myths,” the Mukilteo Community Orchestra on Sunday will feature such selections as “Ruslan and Ludmila Overture” by Mikhail Glinka; Antonin Dvorak’s “The Water Goblin, Op. 107;” and the four movements of “Symphony No. 2 in B minor” by Alexander Borodin.
These three composers grew up in the 1800s, a time when stories of heroes and myths, witches and goblins, were popular.
And these composers are known for their storytelling ability.
“I am very pleased to be highlighting this exciting music for this performance,” said Trevor Lutzenhiser, artistic director and conductor, in a prepared statement.
“Our hope is that the music transports our audience into the stories of maidens and water goblins, mythical witches, castles, magic swords and enchanted gardens.
“These are wonderful pieces that have become favorites of the orchestra.”
“Heroes and Myths” begins at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Rosehill Community Center, 304 Lincoln Ave., Mukilteo.
