‘I drink your milkshake” is fast becoming this year’s pop-culture catchphrase. True or false?
Well, you make the call, but supposedly, this line of dialogue by Daniel Day-Lewis in the movie “There Will Be Blood” has already joined former flick-speaks such as “Show me the money” and “I see dead people.”
Believe it or not, this “I drink your milkshake” bit has actually prodded some folks into creating and swapping movie-motivated milkshake recipes online at www.BakeSpace.com.
In fact, one of those folks, going by the moniker Daniel Plainview, not only goes public with recipes he notes were inspired by “There Will Be Blood,” he includes a brief personal blurb with each how-to.
Here’s a taste of his talk:
“I’m an oilman,” he says, “and if there is one thing I know, it’s oil. And if there is one thing my son knows, it’s chocolate. Together we created this chocolate oil milkshake recipe that’s even better than black gold.”
Orange oil is another of his film-inspired shakes, about which he says, “Spending hot days in the California sun can sure take a toll on the boys in the well. This recipe never fails to quench their thirst!
“This recipe satisfies the competition in me … it’s simply that good! You will agree, I’m sure.”
Then there’s his vanilla oil shake: “When you’re working out in the well all day, the clean, cool taste of vanilla is irresistible. Nothing quenches an oilman’s thirst like this frosty milkshake. I drink it up!
“Now this recipe is made with oil, albeit corn oil — something my men and my son enjoy very much.”
We’ll get to Plainview’s movie shakes in a minute. First, though, if you’re in the moo-d for more milkshakes, different ones, and love to switch on the computer and troll for recipes, you might want to give this grass-roots online cooking and socializing community a click: BakeSpace.com.
Now, break our your drink mixer or blender for:
Chocolate oil
1/4cup chocolate syrup (looks like oil)
2scoops vanilla ice cream (or, if you want it black like oil, use 2 cups chocolate ice cream)
1cup milk
Add syrup, ice cream and milk to drink mixer or blender and mix until no lumps remain. Add more ice cream, if a thicker chocolate milkshake is desired. Add more milk, if you want a thinner drink.
Orange oil
1/2quart (2 cups) orange juice
1cup vanilla ice cream
1cup orange sherbet
Combine all ingredients in a blender. Blend until smooth and enjoy.
Vanilla oil
1-1/2 to 2 cups ice water
1-1/2cups nonfat dry milk powder
2/3cup sugar
1/4cup unsweetened cocoa
1teaspoon vanilla
1 to 1-1/2 trays ice cubes (as much as you can spare)
2tablespoons corn oil, plus a 5-second squirt of nonstick cooking spray for emulsification purposes
Place ice water, powdered milk, sugar, cocoa, vanilla, ice cubes, corn oil and nonstick spray in a blender container. Use less water for thicker milkshakes and more water for shakes that are easy on your blender motor. The blender should be about three-quarters full. Turn blender on for a full 2 minutes.
That’s it! Pour and serve.
Makes four 12-ounce servings.
