Academic focus: Samantha is on target to graduate on time after falling behind on credits her freshman and sophomore years. Catching up took hard work and summer school.
Thanks, Mom: Samantha said she has drawn inspiration from her mother, who urged her to work hard in school before she died last November after a four-year illness.
“I don’t know what she did, but she got it through my head I really need to do this. It’s really important. She is the voice in the back of my head who would push me to do it. She’s the reason.”
Planning ahead: Studying the past could be part of her future. Samantha would like to become a history teacher. She wants to enroll in community college and establish residency in Montana before transferring to the University of Montana.
Eye on Big Sky: Her childhood included attending schools in four states. The Big Sky country of Montana remains a favorite place, sprinkled with memories of camping and fishing with her dad. “Montana is just home to me. I just love it. There is nothing I don’t like about it.”
Bard fan: Her schedule includes a Shakespearean workshop class. These days, she’s reading “Hamlet.” Last year, she read “Much Ado About Nothing,” which she enjoyed.
Road trip: Samantha looks forward to a field trip to Canada to look at plants as part of her horticulture class.
Offering a voice: Samantha represents ACES as a student representative on the Mukilteo School Board. A student from each of the high schools sits on the board. They don’t get to vote, but they do offer their thoughts and observations. “I think it’s really neat. You get to know everything that is going on in the school district and get to be a part of it.”
Staying busy: With school, the school board, working on the yearbook and a job at Wendy’s, Samantha doesn’t have much free time. She enjoys spending it watching movies and hanging out with friends.
Furry friends: Her two cats — Tibby and Tupac — greet her by the door when she arrives home. Her beagle, Sassy, lives up to her name.
Aces is aces: Samantha said she enjoys school. “I love school, my school especially. You know that everyone here will do everything they can to help you, both students and staff.”
