Quirky variety show planned in Arlington

It’s time to inject a little variety into your family life.

Members of the “Summer Variety Spectacular” show have teamed up with The Boys &Girls Club of Arlington to create a category-defying entertainment experience that comes complete with vaudeville acts, a sword swallower, a quirky jazz musician and a magician.

Vaudeville performer R. Chumleigh highlights this show.

Chumleigh brings with him sword and fire artist Moz Wright, whose act is not to be confused with fire eating or spitting. He describes his daring routine as juggling fire with his mouth. In case you are wondering, his flames and swords are real.

Other performers include stunt-comedy-music fusion group Captain Trendo and the Blue Collar Cult and illusionist Nash Fung, who is billed as proficient in sleight-of-hand-magic and mind-reading.

Also on the bill is jazz and blues artist Thaddeus Spae, whose musical act has been described as a multi-instrumental gymnastics with vocals that veer between Bing Crosby and Tom Waits.

Ticket proceeds go to the Boys &Girls Club for a scholarship fund for low-income families to send their kids to summer camp.

“Summer Variety Spectacular” starts at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Old Arlington High School, also known as the old “A” Building, 135 N. French St., Arlington. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.

Admission is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and military and $5 for children. The show is recommended for all ages.
