50 years ago (1961)
Funeral services for Emma Guild, 86, were held in Seattle. She and her late husband Harry had been long time residents of Everett, living at 3418 Snohomish Ave. He was nationally known for his magazine articles and “Bird Lore,” a column in The Herald.
Tom Watson was named marshal of newly incorporated Lake Stevens. He had law enforcement experience as a deputy sheriff in Snohomish County and was assistant marshal in Lynden. Watson’s appointment was one of three made thus far by Mayor William Hawkins.
25 years ago (1986)
Brilliant orange sunsets, waterfront dining and giant airplanes was how and advertising campaign was portraying Everett, “the great little city by the bay,” in hopes of convincing Californians to Expo ‘86 in Vancouver, B.C.
According to a recent analysis Lynnwood could experience a boom in the next two decades that would rival the development of Bellevue. It was also noted that the area was behind the call for improved east-west access, specifically a proposed 180th St. corridor between 36th Ave. W. and Highway 527 near Mill Creek.
