50 years ago (1962)
Construction of the addition and modernization of Tyee Bowl in north Everett was progressing on schedule, according to owner Don Brachen. Among the new innovations at the lanes were subway ball returns, screens showing pins left standing, and automatic pin finders. There would be a new coffee and sandwich bar.
Members of the Lake Stevens Fire Department called attention to their annual Firemen’s Ball at Lundeen’s Hall. Among those expected to attend were Mayor Bill Hawkins, Loral Anderson, Buzz Hunt, Vic DeBaer and Floyd Werner.
25 years ago (1987)
Mill Creek Square was hosting a free beach party street dance for all ages tonight. There would be contests (limbo, hula hoop) and prizes (tapes, albums) and lot of dancing as disc jockey Ed Dial spun platters from artists including the Beach Boys to Whitney Houston.
The fifth annual Taste of Edmonds was taking place in downtown Edmonds with 35 restaurants offering their wares, as well as food demonstrations, entertainment and arts and crafts booths. The Hot salsa band Bochinche was performing today and Tropical Rainstorm performing on steel drum was playing tomorrow.
