OK, so The Herald recently published a massive story about the rise of supposedly compostable packaging.
Is that SunChips bag — you know, the insanely loud one showing up everywhere — compostable?
Yes, it is!
But, honestly, it is a tough bag to use if you want to pick chips out one by one for snacking.
Won’t most people just put the chips in another bag, like a zip-top bag, or a plastic container? If so, what happens then to the eco-benefits?
Our favorite account of one man’s SunChips experience goes like this:
“So I am sitting ‘enjoying’ a freshly opened bag of French onion SunChips. PROBLEM: I can’t so much as breathe towards the bag without the crackling waking up the whole neighborhood! This new eco-bag is good for the environment, but it’s not good for my ears! It is ruining my snack experience!!!!”
It this the downside of corn-based plastic bags or just genius marketing for higher product visibility — and, um, audibility — for SunChips? (See it’s working already!)
