LAKE STEVENS – Lake Stevens High School and Highland Elementary were placed in lockdown this morning as police scoured the community for two people who led police on a chase and then ran off.
The high school was in lockdown with the classroom doors locked and windows covered, Arlene Hulten, a Lake Stevens School District spokeswoman, said.
Students at Highland Elementary were being kept indoors but allowed to move about the building, she said.
The lockdowns at the school are precautionary measures to keep the students safe, Hulten said.
The police activity started on N. Lake Shore Drive around 9:25 a.m. Officers called off a pursuit of a minivan when the driver started going too fast.
Police found the van, but the two people inside the vehicle ran off.
Dozens of officers and sheriff’s deputies are looking for the two people in the area, according to police dispatchers.
