Two men and a woman were charged Tuesday with residential burglary Wednesday after a homeowner in a rural area near Arlington reportedly caught them breaking into his house early Saturday morning.
A Snohomish County Superior Court judge set bail at $20,000 each for Robert Grant Campbell, 20, and Codey Ann Smith, 19, both of Snohomish, and Jesse Donnelly Adams, 18, of Marysville.
The homeowner returned home about 1:30 a.m. and spotted a strange car in his driveway and a man coming out of his house. He started to confront the three people in the car, but believed a man in the back seat had a gun, deputy prosecutor Lisa Paul said.
The homeowner went to call for help, then began chasing the car in his own vehicle. After the car crashed into a ditch, the man heard two loud "pops" and the rear window of the getaway car shattered, apparently when someone in the car fired a shotgun through the rear window, Paul said.
The shots apparently were fired in the direction of the man who was pursuing the three, court documents said.
A resident near the crash site heard the commotion, including the shots, and saw three people wandering around in his driveway. He held them at bay until sheriff’s deputies arrived, Paul said.
According to court documents, the three attempted to steal cash and a bag of marijuana before they were interrupted.
