EVERETT — A century-old fishing vessel sank inside the Everett Marina late Friday and leaked up to 7 gallons of diesel into the water, the U.S. Coast Guard reported.
The owner hired a contractor and hoped to raise the 51-foot boat within the next day or two, Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer David Mosley said. The contractor also worked to contain the spill and remove fuel remaining on board.
“The owner has been very responsible. He’s been very active in working with us,” Mosley said.
The sunken vessel was built in 1912 and was undergoing a conversion for recreational use, he said. The Coast Guard responded Saturday. Though investigators have no eyewitnesses to the sinking, they were able to estimate a window of time. The owner had not been on the boat for almost a week before the accident.
