Pi, that mathematical symbol that looks like a table with a wavy top and represents the mathematical constant used to determine the area of a circle, is remarkable for another property.
It’s an irrational number, which means that its digital notation never repeats. Some supercomputers have calculated Pi to more than a trillion digits. Most adults can repeat Pi to a few digits past the decimal point. Personally, I get as far as 3.1415926, then start faking it with my phone number and license plate number. I usually don’t get called on it until I start using letters.
Today being National Pi Day, March 14, or 03.14, I found a YouTube video by musician Michael John Blake, who took Pi to 31 decimal places, assigned each number a note or chord and composed the song.
This song is best enjoyed while eating a slice of pie. But then everything is best enjoyed while eating pie.
Enjoy.
