LAKE STEVENS — The annual summer festival that takes place on and around Snohomish County’s largest lake is set for this weekend.
Aquafest has been a Lake Stevens tradition for nearly 60 years. It includes more than 20 events over three days. People can expect a variety of shows featuring cars, boats, pets and music. The lineup also has parades, games, crafts, food and rides.
A few disruptions are expected. With construction under way at local schools, as well as recent fire damage to the Boys & Girls Club gym, facilities weren’t available for the 3-on-3 basketball tournament, according to an online announcement.
There also is ongoing work around North Cove Park, so some areas might not be open to the public.
The Grand Parade is set for 1 p.m. Saturday downtown. The route includes stretches of Main, 16th and 20th streets NE.
Carnival rides open Thursday and continue through Sunday.
There are a couple of new additions to the festivities this year. Venardos Circus has shows Thursday through Sunday at Mt. Pilchuck Elementary School. Dino Crew, with lifelike mechanical dinosaur puppets, plans to be at the north end of the community center on Main Street.
This year’s movie in the park is the animated film “Coco” at 9 p.m. Friday at North Cove Park.
The Aquarun on Saturday includes 5K, 10K and kid-friendly 1K races. A disc golf tournament on the course at Catherine Creek Park also is scheduled that day. The Quadrathon, challenging people to run, bike, swim and paddle, is set for Sunday morning.
The lake is the centerpiece of several events. They include two popular activities that bookend the daylight hours on Saturday: a waterski tournament at 7 a.m. and a boat parade at 7 p.m.
While main events such as the parades are free to watch, some activities cost money, including carnival ride tickets and entrance fees for competitions.
