LEAVENWORTH — A cougar that was killed as it was attacking a pig is believed to be the same aggressive animal that threatened hikers and forced the closure of a trail near Leavenworth.
Fish and Wildlife Department spokeswoman Craig Bartlett says the cougar was shot Saturday in a pigpen by a farmer protecting his property.
The Seattle Times reports an aggressive cougar frightened at least four mountain bike riders this summer on Freund Trail. The threats prompted the Forest Service to close the trail earlier this month. The Times says the trail was reopened Tuesday.
