EVERETT — Bystanders captured a man after he ran from the scene of an alleged DUI crash Monday night in downtown Everett.
The man, 26, allegedly was involved in a few collisions that night, Everett police said.
The first was around 6:45 p.m. in the 1700 block of Merrill Creek Parkway. A Nissan Pathfinder was found in landscaping and a reportedly intoxicated man claimed vandals abandoned it there and that the battery was dead. Nobody saw the man driving and a neighbor agreed to take him home, so he was released at the scene.
At 8 p.m., the same SUV allegedly hit a man’s car in the intersection of 41st Street and Colby Avenue.
Just a few minutes later, witnesses reported seeing the Pathfinder high centered near the intersection of Hewitt and Wetmore avenues. It reportedly ran a red light, jumped the curb, knocked off a fire hydrant, and toppled two traffic control vaults.
Bystanders helped the driver out of the SUV, and the man tried to run away before two witnesses stopped him.
He was arrested for investigation of driving under the influence and booked into the Snohomish County Jail.
