LEAVENWORTH – A wildfire has burned between 600 and 900 acres in the Icicle Creek drainage near this tourist town, officials said Friday.
Fire bosses originally estimated that as much as 1,000 acres had burned in the area 9 miles west of Leavenworth, but closer surveillance showed the amount was smaller, said Rick Acosta, a fire information officer for the U.S. Forest Service.
All the campgrounds in the area have been evacuated and some vacation homes in the drainage have been given a precautionary evacuation notice, Acosta said. The fire was about a mile from the nearest structure, a vacation home.
No injuries have been reported.
The fire was burning on a ridge between Doctor Creek and Victoria Creek in the Wenatchee National Forest. Firefighters were attacking the blaze with water dropped from helicopters.
