DARRINGTON — A person swam safely to shore Friday evening after a car plunged into the Sauk River south of Darrington.
Rescuers responded to the river near Backman Park off of Clear Creek Road around 8:30 p.m., according to the Darrington Fire District. When they arrived, a car was partially submerged in the water.
Responders got ready for a technical water rescue, but the person swam to shore on his own.
According to a news release, the car floated about a half-mile down the river, then got stuck on a rock. A plan to remove it was still being made on Saturday, said Drew Bono, the district’s deputy fire chief.
“There is no need to call 911 to report the vehicle still being in the water,” the fire district noted.
The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office was investigating.
