Christina Strand, 40
Christina Strand has devoted her life to helping people get around Snohomish County.
Her day job is community engagement specialist for Community Transit, the system that serves Snohomish County and the Puget Sound region.
Strand aims to ensure that transit service is affordable and accessible for all in Snohomish County.
She convinced transit management to offer subsidized annual transit passes for low-income individuals and families.
Strand also volunteers her time as board president at Sharing Wheels, an Everett-based nonprofit bike repair shop. The shop gives bikes away to low-income children and adults, sells used bikes at a discount and teaches bike repair skills.
Strand believes biking, walking and public transit can have a positive impact for people and communities.
“I see public transportation, biking and walking as the future that cannot only change our city but also help globally with climate issues,” Strand said.
She said her leadership skills have helped build Sharing Wheels into a more effective organization. Strand was named president in 2004.
“By fostering a collaborative environment, we were able to align our team’s strengths and focus on shared goals, leading to successful initiatives such as expanding our volunteer-driven bike repair program and increasing outreach efforts to underserved communities,” she said.
Strand had also volunteered with Green Everett, the Everett Station District Allegiance and the Downtown Everett Association.
She said all the organizations aim to enhance the quality of life for residents through environmental sustainability, revitalization efforts and community engagement.
“Through these roles, I strive to create a more connected, efficient and inclusive community that works for everyone,” she said.
