THE VILLAGE, Okla. — The mother of a 4-year-old girl found drunk at school admitted she left a beer can open overnight and caught her daughter drinking from it, police said.
Christina Aaron, 34, was arrested Wednesday night and taken to the Oklahoma County jail, police Deputy Chief Steve Jagosh said. She was released on $10,000 bail Thursday, Jagosh said.
“I don’t know of any incident of a child being this young suspected of using alcohol,” the 22-year police veteran said.
Jagosh said a teacher’s aide at Andrew Johnson Elementary School saw the girl stumble to the school floor Wednesday and reached down to pick her up.
The aide noticed the odor of alcohol on the girl, who is a pre-kindergarten student, the police officer said.
The girl was taken to OU Medical Center, where doctors confirmed she was drunk, Jagosh said. The girl was released from the hospital and is in state custody, he said.
Aaron told officers she went to bed Tuesday night and left a beer can open, Jagosh said. She said she caught her daughter drinking beer the next morning, disciplined her and sent her to school, he said. She said she lives alone with her daughter.
Jagosh said police will submit a report to the district attorney’s office by Tuesday. The mother could be charged with felony child neglect, he said.
