MOUNT VERNON — Last week’s Mount Vernon School Board meeting was the last for Superintendent Ismael Vivanco.
During the meeting, incoming Superintendent Victor Vergara took his oath of office and board member Marissa Guerrero submitted her resignation effective at the end of July.
Vivanco is leaving the Mount Vernon School District to become superintendent of Northwest Educational Service District 189.
Vergara most recently worked as assistant superintendent of equity and student success for the Edmonds School District.
An earlier news release said Vergara was chosen for his proven collaborative leadership, dedication to equity of all students, and strong connections with staff, students and the community.
Last Wednesday, Vergara thanked the board for the opportunity. He said if the board knows one thing it is that he will work hard in the position.
Guerrero represents District 2, which is in the northeast section of the district, since being appointed to fill a vacant seat in August 2022.
She said she is leaving the school board to spend more time with her children, who are students in the district.
Board President Larry Otos said the board will hold interviews of applicants to fill the position in about the third week of July.
