EVERETT — The city of Edmonds will host an open house on updates to the 2025 draft development code 6-7:40 p.m. May 1 in the Brackett Room at Edmonds City Hall.
The open house will focus on two components of the development code: middle housing and neighborhood centers and hubs.
Middle housing includes housing types such as duplexes, cottage homes and townhouses. Last year, the state Legislature passed a bill requiring cities to allow at least two housing units per lot in residential zones that were previously restricted to single-family homes and six types of middle housing. Cities must allow four housing units per lot near major transit stops and areas with strict affordability criteria. Edmonds must adopt a code to reflect state law by June 30.
In January, the Edmonds City Council passed an interim ordinance for neighborhood centers and hubs. In December 2024, the city passed its comprehensive plan, designating Westgate, Five Corners, Firdale, the Medical Expansion District, East Sea View, West Edmonds Way and South Ballinger as targets for growth. These centers and hubs would include a mix of small-scale commercial and multifamily residential development, consistent with height limits in the city’s comprehensive plan.
The open house will include maps, informational displays and a 6:30 p.m. presentation. City planning staff will be available to answer questions and gather feedback from the community.
All materials from the open house will be available online after the event at www.edmondswa.gov/2025codeupdates.
