SEATTLE — Relatives and friends of the women slain by Green River Killer Gary Ridgway had a chance to speak to him in court Thursday, before he was sentenced to life in prison. Here are some excerpts:
Tim Meehan, brother of Mary Meehan: "I can only hope that someday, someone gets the opportunity to choke you unconscious 48 times. … May God have no mercy on your soul."
Vicky Ware, sister of Kelly Ware: "This will not be the last time I will see you, because I will see you in hell."
Jose Malvar Jr., brother of Marie Malvar: "You’re a loser, you’re a coward, you’re a nobody. You’re an animal. Thank God I have these police officers in front of me. You should be dead."
Sarah King, daughter of Carol Christensen: "She wasn’t a prostitute. She was a mother; she was a wife; she was a sister. No matter what you say, I will never, ever, ever forgive you."
Michelle Blair, sister of Gisele Lovvorn: "He doesn’t deserve to live or breathe. But he doesn’t deserve to die."
Kevin Winston, brother of Tracy Winston: "I hope you go into the general population (in prison). It’s easy to kill women, but let’s see how you do against the other prisoners in the general population. Hopefully you won’t last long."
Kandice Watt, sister of Roberta Hays: "You were given free will like every other person in this world, and you made choices. You chose to murder those young girls." LuAnna Yellow Robe, sister of Patricia Yellow Robe: "I don’t want to give it the energy it would take to hate this man. I put the power of his fate in the hands of the Great Spirit. That’s where I find my peace, and that’s where Trish is — in the hands of the Great Spirit."
Helen Dexter, mother of Constance Naon: "I believe had the investigation gone right in the last 20 years, many of us would not be in this court today. I believe we still are victimized by some very politically ambitious careers."
Deanna Brewer, sister of Shirley Marie Sherrill: "Today my sister can rest in peace. Shirley, I always will love you." Copyright ©2003 Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
