MONTESANO — The legal bills for the battle over budget cuts between the Grays Harbor Superior Court judges and the Grays Harbor County commissioners now exceed $277,000.
The Daily World reported that is almost the same amount that the judges are considered over-budget by the commissioners.
The judges filed their lawsuit in Thurston County Superior Court in December, largely over concerns that the commissioners had overstepped their authority in making budget cuts to the court. The judges also argue that budget cuts have led to less security at the courthouse.
In March, a sheriff’s deputy was shot at and a judge was stabbed by a man at a courthouse.
The Attorney General’s Office reported that $177,523 of state money has been spent on representing the judges. The county has spent $100,000.
