MONROE — Snohomish County’s Focus on Farming and Focus on Forestry conference will return on Nov. 10 after a two-year hiatus.
The one-day event will highlight innovation, practical knowledge and the latest research to help farmers and foresters. This year’s theme is “New Challenges, New Opportunities.” The conference will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds in Monroe.
The 17th annual event will feature two keynote speakers, plus 24 workshops on farming topics. Categories include new and beginning farmers, livestock production, business of farming, agritourism, new technology in agriculture and nursery production. There are four more sessions on forestry.
Participants will have time to attend a trade show between sessions. Vendors will represent industry sectors from equipment and tools to expertise and insurance.
The morning speaker will be Michelle Miller, known as “the Farm Babe,” and the afternoon speaker will be Matt Rush. A local chef will prepare a gourmet lunch with local ingredients.
Past conferences have drawn more than 500.
“My goal is that farmers leave with information they can use day-to-day, but they also leave inspired about what it is that they do,” said Linda Neunzig, the county’s agriculture coordinator.
Price is $60 for advance registration and $30 for students. Fee includes coffee, baked goods and lunch. Advance registration ends at 8 p.m. Nov. 6. Day-of-registration will be $70. Availability will depend on space.
